Sip Saam

The Menu

Sip Saam’s menu leans into Thai street food staples, offering all the classics you’d expect from spring rolls and Moo Ping skewers to cashew nut chicken and rich curries. It’s the kind of menu that makes it easy to mix familiar favorites with a few bold dishes, giving diners a taste of traditional Thai flavors with a modern twist.

Spring Rolls

4/10

We started with the spring rolls, opting for the shrimp version. Flavor-wise, they were fairly standard — crispy, hot, and exactly what you’d expect from a classic spring roll. Nothing bad, nothing particularly memorable. One small detail worth noting, though: the shrimp distribution was uneven. Two rolls had two shrimp, while the other two only had one. It didn’t ruin the experience, but it was noticeable, especially when sharing.

Happy Hour

The bar at Sip Saam looks nice and inviting, but that’s about as exciting as it gets. While the other appetizers seemed promising, what I tried didn’t exactly wow, and based on my visit, it’s hard to say the happy hour menu will be a game-changer. Still, it could be worth a stop if you’re just looking for a drink with a few small bites.

Moo Ping (Thai BBQ Pork Skewers)

4.5/10

I was especially excited to try the Moo Ping, a Thai street food classic, served here with an Eastern Thai–style dipping sauce. Unfortunately, this dish didn’t quite live up to expectations. The pork skewers came out noticeably dry and lacked the depth of flavor I associate with Moo Ping. The saving grace was the dipping sauce, which was well-balanced and flavorful, adding much-needed moisture and brightness to each bite. While the sauce showed promise, the pork itself fell short of the mark.

Cashew Nut with Chicken

6/10

The cashew nut chicken had a solid flavor foundation but missed the mark in execution. The dish was noticeably lacking sauce, which left it drier than expected. Without that saucy element, the chicken and vegetables — cashew nut, carrot, white and green onion, and garlic — felt underdressed. Flavor-wise, it wasn’t bad; the aromatics came through nicely, and with more sauce, this could have been a comforting, satisfying dish. I ordered it at a level 5 spice, but the heat was fairly mild, so spice lovers may want to request extra heat when ordering.

Yellow Curry

8/10

The yellow curry was easily the best dish of the night. I ordered it at a level 5 heat, and it delivered noticeably more spice than the cashew nut chicken while still being well-balanced and deeply flavorful. The curry had a warm, comforting richness that made it hard to stop eating. My only critique is the consistency — the curry was a bit thinner than I prefer, and I would have loved a thicker, more luxurious texture. Even so, this was the standout dish and the one I’d most likely order again.

My Overall thoughts

Sip Saam delivered a mixed experience. While the menu features exciting Thai street food staples and thoughtful flavor combinations, execution was inconsistent across dishes. Several items leaned dry or under-sauced, and the spice level felt uneven, even when ordering at a level 5 heat. On top of that, parking was a headache, which made the visit a little more frustrating than it needed to be. With better consistency in seasoning, sauce, and spice, Sip Saam could live up to its promise but based on this visit, it hasn’t quite earned its hype yet.
